Slipping Ground

Piazza Navona porfolio final.jpg

Projecting the city of Rome into a forward looking context, the role of the theater is recognized as inherent to the piazza–past and present. This project adapts this idea for the future. By connecting to the past this project will encourage reuse and reinvention. Acknowledging the ruins of the stadium below (once a principal venue for theatrical events) brings new life to what is now buried underground. Through the transformation of the piazza’s ground plane different types of theater spaces, from indoor to outdoor or from the impromptu to the formal, are created.
