The client wanted to give their newly purchased nineteenth-century row house a light and open update while maintaining the old house charm. Changes in materials and ceiling height on the first floor define a series of “rooms” and temper the tunnel effect of the long, narrow plan. The second floor plan was modified to add a master bathroom. Updating this historic floor plan, for modern-day use, reclaimed valuable square footage from circulation spaces and eliminated a long, awkward hallway.
